Want to learn more about the challenges of self harm?
Join Isle of Man Samaritans and Isle Listen on 29 September as we welcome guest speaker Satveer Nijjar to the Island.
Satveer, who runs an organisation called Attention Seekers, will focus on the challenges of self-harm. She aims to speak to parents, carers, anyone who may have experienced self-harm or anyone who would like to learn more about how self-harm is used as a coping tool and help gain a better understanding of how to support those who are self-harming.
The event will be held on Friday 29 September (7pm – 9pm) at Loch Promenade Church.

Whether you know or care for someone who has hurt themselves, or you’ve struggled with feelings and behaviours yourself, it can be tough to talk about and fully understand self-harm.
But, as with most issues surrounding mental health, building awareness and improving knowledge is the best route to breaking the stigma.
The talk will cover:
Better understanding
- What is self-harm? (Definition, statistics)
- What can lead to self-harm? (Triggers)
- Self-harm and suicide: the similarities and differences, asking about suicide
- Functions of self-harm
How to support
- Alternatives to self-harm
- Language use around self-harm/destigmatising
- What does support look like?
