Stress Awareness Month occurs annually in April and began in 1992 as a way of raising awareness of the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic and the effects on mental health and wellbeing.
The last two years have been the most challenging we have faced and in the wake of the global pandemic, services are becoming overwhelmed with people who are struggling and seeking support.
This year the theme for Stress Awareness Month is Community, which has been chosen because lack of support can cause loneliness and isolation, which in turn lowers people’s wellbeing, impacts mental health and can lead to mental illness. According to the Stress Management Society, social isolation is an important risk factor for both deteriorating mental health and suicide.
